Juniors
We are the
Junior Section of the Easthampstead Golf Club, which plays on the Downshire
public golf course.
Who can join?
Membership of
the club is open to boys and girls under the age of 18 regardless of golfing
ability.
All members, whether boys or girls, have equal rights in all aspects of the
club.
There is no
minimum age limit but Juniors under the age of 12 have normally progressed
through the Junior Academy.
There is no
limit on membership numbers but we periodically need to close membership when
running coaching sessions becomes a problem (currently 40 members).
What does it
cost?
Annual
membership costs £25 payable from December each year.
For Junior
sessions on Wednesdays or Thursdays we charge £3 per session.
What do we
do?
Coaching and practice sessions
Every Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6:30pm until 8pm.
Sessions are open to all Junior members who will receive
coaching from the Course Professionals.
A Junior Progress Card showing current development will be
maintained for each Junior.
In winter, sessions are restricted to the driving range in
reserved practice bays at the far end of the range. Golf balls are provided free
of charge by courtesy of the Downshire Golf Complex.
Other driving range bays may be available but for safety
reasons we restrict Juniors to the reserved bays where they can be properly
supervised and given coaching by the Course Professionals and assistance by the
Junior Organisers.
In summer, coaching sessions will use a mix of driving
range, pitch-and-putt course, the chipping area and the putting green.
NB. All Junior Organisers are CRB cleared for Child
Protection.
Competitions
Every two weeks, usually on Saturdays at about 11:30am.
Entry to competitions is open to all Junior members subject
only to ability as assessed by the Junior Organiser and the Course Professional
using the Junior Progress Card.
Prizes are presented to the winner and the runner-up by
handicap division.
Presentations of the prizes are held 2 or 3 times a year in
the clubhouse.
What to wear?
We do not operate a dress code for coaching and practice
sessions but we do expect Juniors to be reasonably clean and tidy. The Downshire
Golf Complex does have a formal dress code for the course and the clubhouse.

About Safety
Competitions. Safety
in competitions is very well covered in the R&A Rules of Golf book and all
Juniors playing in competitions will be supplied with a copy.
Driving Range.
‘Players should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be
hit by the club or the ball when they make a stroke or practice swing.’ On the
driving range this means:
Red lines
Only the
person using the bay should be in front of the red line at any one time.
Bays
Under no
circumstances should any Junior go forward of the bay and onto the range itself
at any time.
Pitch and putt course.
The
same rules apply as to the course itself. All Juniors are supplied with a copy
of the Rules of Golf.
