The Easthampstead Mixed Team played in the National Finals of NAPGC Hawtree Trophy at Blue Mountain GC on the weekend of 11th/12th September. Having beaten the holders Portsmouth, Queens Park and Southsea to qualify, the team set off with high hopes and expectations.
Drawn against Wycombe Heights in the semi-final on the Saturday, Easthampstead won 3-2 after a close fought match. This meant a Sunday final against Abbey Hill, who defeated Wishaw by the same score.
After a very close and tense final, Easthampstead eventually ran out 5-0 winners, but this doesn’t start to tell the tale. At one point during the day, Easthampstead were down in all 5 matches. 4 of the 5 matches went to the 18th green and the other to the 17th.
A special mention to Mo Barneville, Kirrill Bates and Stephen Eddy who played for the team during the qualifying stages, but were unable to make the final. Also, a big thank you to non-playing Captain Richard Gater, for his help in organising the team this year.
The team would also like to thank all those who came to support them over the weekend. It was much appreciated by all the team and it really did make a difference.
